I think they all go at a bargain price these days, on epay at least. I'm
sure they are no OM3ti, but for critical work on a tripod, for double
exposure, or for sync at 1/125, they can't be beat by any other OM mount
camera, nor for cheap spot-metering capability at the present prices. The
batteries have to be removed for time exposures, and the plastic back and
the self-timer lever do not inspire a lot of confidence, but then, neither
does the self-timer switch on my OM2s. There are no circuit issues like the
OM2s or OM4's, no battery replacement issues like the OM1's, no cracked or
fragile hot-shoe issues like the OM1's and 2's, no oily magnet issues like
the OM10 or sometimes 2n, no replacement of back foam is necessary, no
issues with de-silvering prism like the OM1n's, no missing winder covers
:-), and you won't need to tighten the base plate screws to get the thing to
work The spot metering is a pain to use compared to the OM2s, and the
shutter sound makes you think it should have been named the Olympus Clack,
but both actually work quite well as they were intended. Overall, in
comparison, I'm not so sure they are all that much more fragile for
amateurish-type use. And if I had to bet which, of an OM2000, versus other
OM's, would work best after sitting in the closet for a few years unused, my
bet would go with the OM2000, perhaps something to think about given the
little use some of our OM's will get in the next few years. But who really
cares if they are somewhat fragile, since you can buy another one, or two
even, for less than a typical CLA that most other OM's now need. I don't
use mine a lot, but for what use it has had, I've never had a problem.
