Thanks to all for the recommendations. I would love to get her a C-7070,
but she wants something small and sleek. I will add the Cannon to the list.
Has anyone bought a Verve? It got good reviews and the design is very nice,
but nobody talks about it.

Hi Dean,

you could also consider an Olympus c-7070 WZ (Wide Zoom). This has recently
been voted as European Compact camera of the year (EISA). It has the same
body dimensions as a 5060 WZ, if you know that camera. It is of the type
sometimes called 'creative compact', and is nowhere near as small as a Fuji
F11.
It has a 27-110 (35mm equiv) f2.8-4.8 lens with 2 aspheric and 1 ED
elements, giving excellent image quality;
great build quality (rubber-covered magnesium, made in Japan);
27mm wideangle;
lots of direct buttons, to avoid menus;
4 metering modes (ESP, centre.weighted, spot, and multi-spot(like OM-4));
Spot Autofocus option with 143 selectable focus points;
dual AF system (, predictive AF, continuous AF;
good movie mode including anti-shake;
good tilt-and-swivel LCD useable in sunlight;
2 kinds of live histograms;
2 kinds of framing marks, just like OM 1-10 screen;
good macro modes;
uses same battery, flash guns, and memory cards (CF and xD) as E-300, E-500,
and E1;
and lots more....

I love mine (except for the viewfinder..)
