I surely didn't mean to dis' LL, but I think the comparisons are
a bit questionable in one specific area. He compares to Velvia
or Provia. Granted these two films have excellent resolution
for color films, but they suffer lateral halation in the
emulsion.
Secondly, there is a lot (more like a ton) of image processing
that goes in-camera. If you apply some of the same types of
image processing to a well-scanned slide it really levels the
playing field.
Will the 5D trounce 35mm film? Except for B&W, I'd say it'll be
curtains. But any claims that "it's as good as 4x5..." is pure
nonesense--just like the claims about the predecessors trouncing
35mm.
