If you decide to have it serviced, send it to Tamron in New York. I tried to
have a 300/2.8 serviced by a Tamron recommended camera repair in Sacramento.
... At least they finally sent it to New York and it came back in great
shape.

I've got two of these 35-105/2.8s (more or less). One of them went to
Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam for about two months and has essentially taken
up permanent residence on the front of my son's camera. He never had any
mechanical problems with it nor did I notice any softness due to the lens.
(It does have a broken latch spring and could come off the adaptall)

The other one rotates back and forth from storage to my camera bag. I like
the extra range it has compared to the Zuiko 35-80/2.8. I've never had any
problems with it either. Again I've never noticed any softness. Probably all
of my shots with it have been scenics. The lens hood isn't nearly as nice as
the Zuiko. Other than the lens hood I haven't noticed any reason to leave it
home instead of the Zuiko.

I've been a little surprised by the recent posts about the troubles these
lenses have shown. I see little reason to use primes instead of them. The
lenses probably get very heavy use by their owners.

Photodo give both the Tamron 35-105/2.8 and the Zuiko 35-30/2.8 a rating of
3.6 (same rating to 50/1.2/1.8/2/3.5 & 85/2) . The Zuiko 100/2, 135/4.5,
180/2/2.8 have ratings of 3.9 while the Zuiko 90/2 & 100/2.8 have a rating
of 4.2.

If it would help you to decide whether you want to fix it or not, I could
send you a slide taken using mine.
