It's Warren that I was thinking of - but both of them took a lot of
abuse before they got acceptance. I've probably remembered the story
in a way that suits the point I was trying to make to students when I
was teaching Kuhn of scientific revolutions. The 'truth' (whatever
that is) seems more prosaic and complex.
