Pixel counts are nasty things. The fact is, my E-1 produces
images that far exceed the print image quality standards of ANY
magazine in the world. Limitations are optical and operational.
That said, magazines do like cropping options and a heavy crop
for a double-truck spread is problematic on 5MP images.

For wedding/portrait work, I'm not seeing circumstances where
5MP is not enough. 5MP gives me as good as anything I've ever
managed to get on 35mm Portra films, and almost always better. I
find the E-1 to give me portraits that are more similar to that
found from 645 than 35mm. Mostly the noise characteristics.
Group shots (in RAW mode) give full detail in the
faces--something not usually found in 35mm shots.

Extrapolating the digital pictures and thinking in terms of 8MP
or 10MP (dream, dream), I think the next variation of the E-x
professional camera will be as good as Portra 160NC in 645.

And THAT, folks, is good'nuff for gov'ment work.

Now, if the skin tones could be more 160NC and less NPH...
