Recently I compared the 80-200 tamron 2.8 ed to the 60-300 and tamron 90mm
with some unscientific tests basically take photos of my cd and dvd
collection on the far wall of my bedroom, scan the slides in and zoom in
and have a look at the detail in the writting on the titles etc.

I only tested 3 stops F11, F22 and F5.6.

The 80-200 is very consistent across the range with very good contrast and
has a warmer colour ballance than the 90mm or 60-300
the 90mm is as good as the 80-200 at F11 nearly as good at F5.6 but
surprisingly unsharp at F22 - its not bad but it not as good as the 60-300
at F22!
the 60-300 is better than the 90mm at F22! and as good as the 80-200 at
F11. Naturally the slide scanner (minolta scan elite 5400) has an effect
on the resutls.

conclusions where 80-200 very consistent performer warm colour ballance
very good contrast
60-300 and 90mm good but performance falls off at 5.6 and 22
90mm performance falls off faster than 60-300

James
