I've shipped items to, and received items from, over 20 different countries
and never have had problems with loss or damage. I did get a bellows once
that had been improperly packaged and it was damaged. It was insured but the
shipper refused to sign the forms and I never did get reimbursed. I let it
slide too long to get any help from EBAY. I sometimes get the urge to travel
to Texas for a visit to that guy. That would not be wise though so it never
gets past the "urge" point. I have had some boxes get beat up badly so lots
of packing is always advised. Anything that goes through the UPS sorting
equipment near Chicago will be tested for endurance. Getting packages
through customs between the US and Canada can be a slow process so be
patient there. /jmac

You guys are making me nervous :-). I have a camera body in the mail now on
its way to a list member in Czech. His payment arrived here by registered
mail safe and sound, in the form of US $'s, but if the camera gets lost or
otherwise missing in the mail, it's not going to look good for me :-).

The further one deals abroad, and especially with a few countries (Indonesia
seems to have a bad reputation), the greater the risks become. Sometimes it
has nothing to do with trust in another list member, but increased risks in
transferring money, postal theft, increased problems with uninsured
shipping, declarations on customs forms, etc. Therefore, my opinion only,
but I don't think anyone should be criticized if they state up front their
restrictions on where they are willing to ship. I don't think we have any
list members in Bolivia, but having been there several times, and knowing a
number of people in the country, I don't think I'd want to ship anything
there in the mail.

Wayne (who is willing to ship "about" anywhere, and can hand deliver to
Bolivia in April)
