Again, thanks everyone. I feel much better armed now. I came across the
expression 'stop down focus' somewhere on photo.net (I think) but it never
occurred to me that it was a misnomer. I probably read it 20 more times as
the much more correct 'stop down metering' but the original stuck in my
head. Thinking of it as stop down metering sure makes a heckofa lot more
sense. The good news is that my meter doesn't work, so I'll use my handheld
and I'll have to learn to accommodate the fall off from the extension tube.
The reversed lenses are a good idea...I'll try that out one of these days.
In the meantime I'll save up my pennies for a 50 3.5 and a 25mm extension
tube. I should be able to have some fun with that for a while. FWIW, I'm
interested primarily in static objects, so pursuing little buggies that flee
won't be an issue. At least not yet. I even have a spare OM-1 body; I could
devote that to the macro lens and invest in a focusing screen to boot.
What's the word on screens?

I truly appreciate the help.

Cheers,
Matthew Born
