There has been plenty of comment on this Matt - look in the archives at
lists.tako.de searching on ICE Kodachrome, most will support your view. It
was certainly my understanding that ICE did not work on Kodachromes, *until
I tried it* - I was amazed at the results from scanning mouldy old slides.

I posted on 6 August "I have had some stunning success scanning pre-1960
Kodachromes *with ICE* in
that the fungus and scratches simply vanish without obvious harm to the rest
of the image. But there have been some frames where the use of ICE has
introduced a colour shift which is not pleasant.

On balance (and greatly to my surprise), ICE was better than nothing on many
of the Kodachromes - and of course on non-Kodachrome, no question. "

In that posting were links to images which have now moved. They can be
found here (about 200k each!):
http://www.hemy.me.uk/Miscellany/Image10.jpg - mouldy, no ICE
http://www.hemy.me.uk/Miscellany/Image11.jpg - mouldy, with ICE (and colour
shift)
http://www.hemy.me.uk/Miscellany/Image20.jpg - no mould, no ICE
http://www.hemy.me.uk/Miscellany/Image25.jpg - beyond redemption!

All were scanned using a Nikon 4000ED

Subject: [OM] Scanners

I am currently trying to decide on a scanner. The two models at the top of
my list are the Nikon LS-50 and the Minolta Sacan Elite 5400. I am not
excluding cheaper models yet, it is just these two that I have read the most
about.

I have read that the Nikon ICE doesn't work very well on B&W & Kodachrome. I
have also read that the focusing needs a little manual input on the Minolta.

What is everyone out there using? Are there any cheaper models that I should
look at?

OM content: I will be scanning some of my Olly made pictures when I get the
scanner, and posting them on my site. I have been looking at the excellent
TOPE 20 pictures and they have made me want a scanner.
