Mr. Clark has produced some excellent images using the stacked TCs. His web
site went on my favorites list. I did some informal tests a while back and
found the Olympus 1.4 and 2x TCs stacked very well on the Zuiko 350 f-2.8
and on the Tamron 300 f-2.8. Some were taken with the Kiron 1.5x too and it
also performed quite well. I used a street sign as the subject as it has
some sharp letter and number edges to compare. Most of the time I've used
them stacked it was because I needed to get some kind of image in weak light
and was less interested in the actual image quality. The big Zuiko is very
nice and I hope I don't regret selling it. It went to a lady in the UK. I
don't have much experience with the Tamron yet but it seems to be very good.
I like the lighter weight compared to the Zuiko. If I can find the time I'll
scan some of those test images and post them. /jmac

Roger Clark posted some pics on rec.photo.technique.nature where he used
stacked teleconverters(Kenko Pro 300). He shoots digital. I remember when
jmm yabe'd his Zuiko 350 he said that he had used stacked TCs with
reasonable success. Has anyone found any brand TC that can be used with any
Zuikos or Tamron SP lenses to give 800mm + focal length with GOOD results?
Most of Gary's test results make even a single TC look questionable.
I'm very happy with the Zuiko 1.4x TC + Tamron SP 400mm f4 combination but
that only gets up to 560mm.
I suspect the image processing on the digital pics has a lot to do with
Roger's success.
