A friend of mine was on the first sub to cross under the artic ice cap.
Later on he was captain of that rig but I can't remember the name of the

You misunderstand me.  It is not the removal of the reactor that I object
to.  Clearly every scrap of the containment would have to
be removed or secured before converting it into a museum.

I think the reactor should stay precisely where it is:  intact, within a
double-reinforced steel tube, (presumably) on a military
base.

There's no earthly reason to take it out except that our Congressman decided
that the vessel, without its powerplant, would be a
free curio of the Cold War for His Constituents Back Home.  They did some
kind of quickie feasibility study, the results of which
where "This is a preposterous idea; it would cost millions; you're stupid-
don't do it."  Since they put a price tag on it, our
Congressman concluded it is INDEED possible.

I'm gonna let go of it.
