For some reason I don't like the looks of the champagne bodies. They have a
clunky look.

The only substantive difference I can think of is that the black bodies are
likely newer manufactured date than the champagne version... so they would
have newer seals, circuits, etc. But I don't think there is any performance
difference that can be objectively shown. My subjective feeling from
perusing the flow of auctions on 'that site' is that the black ones bring
higher end prices... but I have not specifically gathered data to prove this
impression. If anything, this leads to some good bargains on the champagne
Ti's, like the nearly perfect one I got -with- a 50/2.0 macro for $700 a
while back...
