Very interesting. Sodium is very precious in renal physiology because of
osmotical reasons, it's used to retain water and make urine more
concentrated. Better, as concentrated as necessary.
Sodium equilibrium is vital, more so to carnivore mammals which need to get
rid of a lot of metabolic toxines. Is it that their urine is richer in
sodium because they need to get rid of these, and therefore diluted in a
larger water volume which can only be produced by wasting sodium?
If they spend such a large amount of sodium, it should be concluded that
they feed on a rich sodium diet, unlike cows or horses. That's true, muscles
and nerves rely on Na+ / K+ relationship to work and a lot of both ions is
found in these tissues.
Regarding insects, maybe their Na+ hunger is permanent but more evident
during mating. Should carnivore insects be an exception?

Hey I should be studying something different today, or better enjoying this
beautiful spring Sunday using my 85~250/5 + 65~116...

Fernando.
