The darkening of the split image and microprism is down to geometry, not
surfacing of the screen. The brightness gain of a 2 series is in the matte
area only (the other parts are clear plastic).
You probably wouldn't notice that an OM40 has a 2 screen since all it really
does is to compensate for the loss of light from the half - silvered mirror.
On OM2S / 3 /4 a 2 series gives you a viewfinder equivalent to an OM1 / 2
with a 1 series.
