Glad you and yours are safe, Andrew. Are you getting tired from pedaling
your computer yet?

Subject: [OM] Hurricane Juan

Well I'm just now starting to get back online after being hit by Hurricane
Juan Sunday night/Monday morning. The hurricane made landfall pretty much
right on Halifax and there's been quite a bit of destruction. I had
initially heard that it was a class 1 hurricane (lowest class) but I'm
hearing that this is being re-evaluated and it may have even been a class 3
hurricane (sustained winds of 180km/h). My house still has no power or
telephone (phone line was pulled off the house) and power may not be
restored until Friday (although I've heard different rumours about this).
Fortunately, we still have clean running water (but no hot water). The
community has really pulled together though. I've been pretty fortunate in
that I do have a barbeque with a fairly full propane tank. We've been using
that for hot water and cooking and have been sharing that with the
neighbourhood.

I may have made the CTV national news standing with a reporter next to the
tree that was uprooted and fell through my neighbour's driveway and into my
backyard. Obviously I didn't catch the news cast myself.

Living in Nova Scotia, I'm not used to this kind of destructive weather
(last hurricane this bad was 40 years ago). I haven't seen the downtown
waterfront area personally but the pictures I've seen have been pretty bad.
One of the tall ships in the harbour (the Mar II) is completely submerged
(only the tops of the masts are visible). The public gardens has been
completely destroyed. Obviously cleanup is going to take a long time.

OM content, I went around my neighbourhood on Monday with my OM-1n with a
50/1.4 and 35/2 and shot 2 rolls Tri-X of the damage in my neighbourhood. I
should have these processed in the next few days and will try to get them up
online.
