Personally, I cannot imagine getting into a car and NOT putting a seatbelt on.
Irrespective of the law, it seems like a reasonable self - preservation
strategy, and is completely independent of other safety aids in the vehicle,
all of which work better if your body is restrained into broadly the correct
place in the car should disaster strike.
As a side benefit, when car designers can assume that a seatbelt is being worn,
they can tailor the safety aids much more precisely, which leads us to the
smaller and less dangerous European airbag designs.
