Exactly correct! Viewfinder magnification on the OM-1, 2 and the double
digit bodies is 0.92x, on the 2S, 0.86x and on the 3 and 4 series
bodies, 0.84x. Given the choice of enlarging the prism housing and
viewing optics or reducing the size of the viewfinder image to
accomodate the expanded LCD screen info, they opted to maintain the
traditional Oly size.

The image seen through the viewfinder is just a bit larger than the 4.
I suppose the reason might be the area needed for the LCD display.
