Of course I prefer hard cases, I wish my 28/2.8 - 50/1.4 - 2 XA - T32 - 25mm
AutoTube, and my only and beloved black OM2 had hard leather cases like my
russian RF w/Zeiss optics. But only my 200/4 and 21/3.5 came with original
hard cases.
Fact is that the 85~250 and the 65~116, both with tripod collar, would need
a wider than usual hard case. That's why in these exceptional situations of
irregular lens shape, I think that a good soft and flexible real leather
pouch could be more practical.

They used to, Rich. Moreover, there used to be some real camera shops
around. "I feel lucky" that Fuji still processes Provia very well.

So, what are the measures of the 300 soft pouch, please....
