While I agree in principle, and I also own a good tripod, I don't plan
on taking it for the summer holiday. I've noticed that the world is
full of good tripods. The organ pictures I've taken had shutter speeds
of up to 10 seconds, I just put my camera on a steady place & used the
timer to have it shoot the picture. A few pictures, I blocked the
camera against the wall by hand & fired it myself, and I got good
results up to 1/4th of a second. Out on the street there's plenty of
benches and trees I find I can lean against, which sometimes have the
added advantage of forcing me into a non-conventional viewpoint, which
usually adds to the picture :-)

But the principle of taking a tripod, or looking for a stabilizing
point, whenever the shutter speed is approaching the focal length,
is important: I mess up too many hand held shots.

Peter.
