The UPI guys were always breaking Eyecup 1 off by opening the back without
removing the eyecup first.  It may have been the inspiration for designing
Eyecup 2.  We then started to cut the bottom of  Eyecup 1 off for UPI, which
included grinding the edge of the diopter off for the user, then epoxying
the whole thing together.
