Here's a picture of the Maitani signature on the back of my OM-2, compared
side by side with the Maitani plate. Looks like the plate is based on the
actual signature.

Of course it raises the question of what constitutes a signature. I
am sure the latinate signature is for international consumption
because none of us would probably recognize the Japanese symbol he
grew up using.
