The reason the Vietnamese Hueys were pushed overboard off of US ships was that, as they were South Vietnamese government property, they could not be kept by the U.S. I believe they would have been required by international treaty to return them to VietNam... which by that time would have been the Communist government.

The History (or Nazi) Channel shows endless reruns of some WWII newsreel
photos of fighters being pushed off the sides of carriers. These were
aircraft that were damaged in landing, and the deck needed to be cleared
ASAP for other planes with damage, low fuel, or injuries.
