The tripod socket seems quite sturdy, but actually I've been just tightening
it down without taking too much notice. I've been putting it on a tripod pan
head that has a base large enough to engage all four of the little feet on
the bottom of the camera.

Oops, I probably gave my flash a misnomer by calling it a potato masher. It
is similar to a Vivitar 283 or 285, with its highest GN of 140, but is just
a shoe mount flash.
