Lenses do sometimes "wear out" -- mostly, the helicoids get sloppy with
wear, and occasionally there is a lever in the aperture mechanism of
some models that wears to the point that the aperture jams closed
sometimes.  But the biggest "killer" is fungus -- and water and impact,
of course.  We can sometimes clean fungus, but not always.  A little
debris isn't a crisis, except that I suspect that's where fungus starts
growing.  If you keep it otherwise clean and dry, you should be OK.  If
you live in a humid environment, I'd consider having a dirty lens
cleaned.
