The repair work may not be overpriced but I'm fairly convinced it is not
commercially feasable to have carried out. I think I'll dismember it myself
and use my Camedia 3030 as a replacement 'walk about'... going digital
through market forces maybe?

Staying with the digital for a second.... one of the key considerations is
that I can produce far better prints from the Camedia to an Epson 880
printer than I've ever got back from a commercial processor. What is even
more worrying is that I have also produced a better print from a slide,
scanned on a Super Coolscan and printed on the same 880, than I received
from a commercial printer adverting exhibition standard cibachrome.

I agree, the repair is definitely not overpriced for the work being done
it's just that with the current market value of the lens suggests that it
might not be cost effective. However, as someone else has already said, if
you know you're getting a perfect condition lens at the end of the day
you're probably better off spending the money on the repair than on a second
hand lens which could be host to all sorts of new problems.

I don't think that the repair is over-priced. I expect that the chap
wants to continue making a living and his time will be worth at least
£50sterling per hour, perhaps more. It's just that you can buy
working versions pretty cheaply...
