I think you are very right. At the first moment when I read about the
possibility of a digital slr system from Olympus I was very excited. However
after some weeks I know I really like the OM system. It is a compact very
well made system that enables one to take pictures and measure light in a
very comforting way. I am very happy with it as well, and it being
discontinued disturbed me a bit, but now I don't bother anymore. I started
my photographic experiences with an old agfa isolette 6*6 folder and learned
what F5.6 or F16 means in combination with shutterspeed means in different
lighting (and don't forget to wind it up, or the shutter wont work!). It was
a nice tool to take pictures with and learn the basics. The OM's are
wonderbricks compared to this, and simply beuatifully crafted as well. It
feels like a good tool in the hands, not a cheap screwdriver set of 5$. That
is what I like about it. Every part is made with love for the one who uses
the camera. The lenses are very balanced. None or very little plastic use,
and the system shows a very nice patina after a while. (I like the copper
showing on a black OM2n).
It is not because suddenly there is digital, analog does not exist anymore.
In our architects office we still use the pencil and sketchroll, as well as
computers. You simply use the tool you like most to obtain a certain goal.
I like my OM and will use it untill it falls apart, also because it is a
fantastic piece of durabilty, engeneering, ergonomy and craftmanship, values
that appear to be disappearing altogether. It is inspiring me to do my job
at least as well! (I won't start about the citroen DS here, OT:-)
And I like the feeling some other people in the world like this system as
well...

cheer up everybody, and enjoy what we have, and others might not now
about...

Iwert.
