I saw one (excellent condition)in a local camera shop
several months ago with "digital" on it. It was Sinar
badged. I figured it was the real McCoy since it said
made by Olympus and probably up to the original Zuiko
spec....snip

Better than Zuiko spec.
I too have one of these lenses that were OEM'd to Sinar. They were used on
the Sinarcam digital front ends that Sinar makes for use with the
professional (studio only) Leaf and Sinar backs. Apparently Sinar cherry
picked the 35-80 Oly zooms that met their tough specs. If you want quality,
go buy it cause this one will be the cream of the crop. As you say the only
difference between this one and ones sold as Olympus is that it says
"Sinaron digital zoom" on the front, and it surely meets Sinar's high lens
spec's.
