I think part of your descriptor is lacking.  A 1.7x4 is 1.7mm x 4 threads
per mm, if I'm not mistaken.  The depth of the screw is nowhere enumerated
in a standard thread sizing.

It depends on which screw, there are lots of different sizes.  If you check
the exploded parts diagrams, it'll tell you the exact size.  For example,
on the OM-1 the screw under the rewind knob is 1.7x4, the bottom plate
screws
are 2x4 and 2x3.  A 1.7x4 means the screws is 1.7mm wide and 4mm deep.  The
threads are metric so don't try and put an imperial size screw in its place.

You can get the screws from many sources.  I know Micro-Tools carries them
as well as the Olympus parts department.  I would suggest trying Micro-Tools
first since I was shocked at the price of a single screw from Olympus (it
was something like $2 each, regardless of quantity!).
