  Wool... slapping myself in the forehead for not thinking of it sooner. 

  One of the advantages of wool is that if it gets wet, it still warms you.  In 
the 30's and 40's the ideal gift for my farmer Grandfather was a Pendleton 
shirt.  I think he still had 5 or 5 in the original packaging when he died.  He 
loved them in the wintertime in Idaho.
