"All colour film uses silver to form the image. It's dissolved out in
processing."

Actually, no. The exposed silver halide forms a latent image, but the final
color image is formed by organic dyes. These can be present in the material
itself (Polacolor, Cibachrome), or they can be created by a chemical
reaction between chemical called dye couplers and the exhausted (oxidized)
developer (Kodachrome, Fujicolor, etc).

I'd like to make a prediction about the upcoming interchangeable-lens
Olympus digital SLR. I'd almost bet my life that there will NOT be an
adapter for OM lenses.

I suspect Olympus wants to make a final and permanent break with the OM
system. By acknowledging its existence with an adapter, they will be
inundated with demands for a camera body with a full-frame sensor.
