One additional comment.

To improve stability the place were you mount the camera
to the tripod should be as close to the center of gravity
as possible.

In the case of long lenses this means using the tripod
collar on the lens (if it has one) in preference to the
tripod mount on the camera.

This goes for bellows set ups as well. It should be
possible to adjust the cameras position on the rail such
that the weight is evenly distributed across the point
where the tripod supports the setup.
