IMO bidding when the auction is still about to run days or hours is rather
stupid as long as you eventually have time to keep up until the last minute.
In most cases you just push the price because folks who can't watch the end
will most likely over-bid you.

FIRST OF ALL I think about what the item is worth and what I'm willing to
pay for it (calculating postage and the seller's reputation as well). This
may be less than a 'realistic' price on items I don't really need ;-) or
even more if it's hard to find. If it works - fine. If not - I know that
it's not a reasonable price for ME (but obviously for somebody else).

If I have the time to watch the end I wait until the last minute/seconds and
then bid the highest price I'm willing to pay.
When I know I can't keep up until the end I bid as late as possible and as
high as I'm willing to go.

>From there it's bot time and the rest is luck.

FYI, That's Chris O'Neil, a current or former list member.

As long as you have the time to keep up, waiting until the last minute is
the best strategy, IMO.

When I see him bid, it's usually early. And if he can't get it real cheap,
he doesn't bid anymore.
