Thank you all for your help and comments on the lens issue!
I'm much more confident now that the test shots will be fine.

I know I have been quite 'active' over the past few hours. Maybe I'm a
little enthusiastic about my recently discovered Zuikoholism and my
participation in this gorgeous mailing list.

Here's a little reward:
One of the rare occasions on which the OM-1 was the subject of my
photograph...

Any kind of dust, lint or hair can get into the lens by way of the slots in
the mount and the space (if any) around the rear lens tube.

Richard,
vacuum through movement sounds logical but dust is not the problem. I'm just
wondering if hair is also common to appear inside. It's slightly bigger than
'common' dust.
Have never seen this until today.

"Dust gets in over time due to the movement of the internal parts, through
focusing and zooming.
The movement creates a vacuum.
Richard"
