One of my favorites is the Tamron 60-300 macro. It doesn't reach that lower 
range, however goes a little further on the long end.  Should be able to get 
one for under $150 and although not dainty, it really isn't that difficult to 
deal with from the stand point of size.  If you gym membership is paid up and 
you usually use a tripod, Tamron had a 70-350mm.  I have one of them for sale
