I would have to second this suggestion. Although not as cheap as it was in
the mid-90's, it has beautiful architecture and interesting culture. And by
western European standards, is still cheap.
Other not so cheap but interesting places: my favorite little ski town,
Garmisch-Partenkirchen. A good place to get the ubiquitous Bavarian shots,
and the food/bier is just great.
