Hello all! What a brilliant topic to discuss.

My thoughts.............,

We as photographers are purists - we like our
equipment and gear reasonably simple, sturdy, reliable
and of very high quality. We like to be in as
much control as possible over our creativity
and the notion
of automation (automatism related to
automatic SLR's) puts limitations on what we
percieve to be entirely our own individual work.

If I where to shoot a sequence or single shot that
proved to be a great one, at the end of the day I
would be a very proud photographer to of taken the
picture(s) with mechanical and manual equipment (this
includes 3Ti's and 4Ti's) than highly sophistcated
computerized automated cameras.

Yes I have used the latter of camera technology. I
have used a N**** F5 (a pro sports photographer -
friend of mine) quite a few times as we both
usually swap on our photographic ocassions here and
there. We are continuously frustrated with one -
another's gear. For me, its like using a computer -
most of the time it tells you what to do and on
the contrary B) He is too lazy

Ive also observed this from time to time.

When I get my processed film back from using my OM
gear, im right in there really excited to find
what ME and my equipment has done, even when I do
use 'A' Mode (but mine are mostly taken in 'M').
When I process the film from taking pics with the F5 I
have expectations and where there is a good photo I
dont feel fulfilled because basically everything was
done for me except the point of view.

Dont get me wrong, the F5 is a serious piece of
technology. As for sports the AF and auto modes are
quite beneficial. But........, if you have an
extremely good eye, know your equipment inside out and
very patient and know your untapped potential is
unlimited then you can do anything.

In my opinion and experience,

Damo
