Of course an adapter can be built and someone will do so, just not Olympus.
The argument will be in the area of image quality. I think the perceived
need for auto focus is probably a big part of the decision. And.....you just
know they would like to sell all of us another complete set of lenses. /jnm

Assuming that we ignore this angle-of-light-onto-CCD issue, given that
Canon et al seem to manage just fine with their digital cameras [1], would
it be possible to make some sort of optical adapter that would take the old
lens and somehow tweak the light to reproject it onto a smaller final
rectangle? It'd need to have mechanical hookups for aperture et al, which
would certainly be a fair amount of work; is this even possible optically,
though?

[1] holy smokes, those things are _huge_. Without anything in picture to
give a sense of scale, I hadn't realised quite how colossal:
 om-4t: 5.3x3.3x2", weight 18oz
 canon eos-1d: 6.1x6.2x3.1", weight (with batteries): 56oz

which makes the om-4t obviously a _lot_ lighter, and a fair bit smaller --
but when you look at someone _holding_ the digiwunderbrick:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos1d/page4.asp -- it absolutely dwarfs
the guy's hand..
