I've tried it - with a 25mm tube as well!
Reasonable magnification, but the biggest problem was vibration. And size.
That thing is huge!

Mark, I tried the small extension tubes on the 300. The 14mm tube was
about the most I could hand hold and use effectively so I didn't even
consider the 65-116. Seems like the weight of the 300 would be a
problem. Let us know how it works out.
