Chris,

Thanks for your explanation.

I've got an .... ehhh, I am sure it has a name but I dunno which, probably
Philips or something .... exposure meter, which I use for the same. It's
a bit like the viewfinder of the OM30: there are two red arrows (left and
right) and a green center light. It also has a large dial and a slider.

With all darkroom light turned off, the negative in the enlarger (focused
and stepped down), the photo cell is placed at the "darkest spot where you
still want details". Either of the two "Red arrows" or the "green
light" lights up. From there on, the rest is simple: turn the dial in the
direction indicated by the red arrows, until the green light is on and
both the arrows are off.

With the darkroom light on, the reccomended exposure time is indicated on
the dial (there is a marking on the dial, pointing at a scale).

The slider is a "paper offset" kinda thing, a bit like the ASA dial on a
camera.

I dunno - perhaps your exposure monitor works in a similar way?

If all else fails, try to call in the direction of Ilford and ask for a
copy of the manual...
