 Hm, I guess I was wrong. I know I've found things on google that the
regular archive didn't have, but this would suggest it's not as useful as it
might be, especially in this case.

 Yes, that's correct; from their help page:

"Word Variations (Stemming) 
To provide the most accurate results, Google does not use "stemming" or
support "wildcard" searches. In other words, Google searches for exactly the
words that you enter in the search box. Searching for "googl" or "googl*"
will not yield "googler" or "googlin". If in doubt, try both forms:
"airline" and "airlines," for instance."

 though why would you be looking for "olymp"? Either people'll call it Oly
or Olympus, surely?

 Mirror them locally and grep, I guess, ick. Though if anyone _does_
download the entire thing it would probably be good karma to ask the list's
host first, lest there be some sort of repeat of the esif mess..
