Well, it was a 3410 head w/ quick release plates.  The cork top isn't
the best material to mate the camera to, it becomes slippery after use.

The head is quite strong, as is the tripod.  It is the extra weight and
leverage of the 2x-A that make the camera slip.

Maybe a sturdier tripod head?
