I don't remember if you said you were using print or slide film, but before I
was scanning and printing at home I have had some great negatives badly printed
by averaging print machines. And the variability is appaling. Good 6"x4"
prints that I asked to
be enlarged to 10"x8" came back with all that dappled light washed out. Use
slides. Or scan and print yourself.
