[OM] (ot) Eastman Kodak and wild spaces

Well today I go a bit claustrophobic and went out to
try to see if I could find some open or woodsy spaces
where people were scarce. After driving all over
Monroe County and putting almost 150 miles on my car I
realized two things. One is that there are no even
semi wild spaces in Monroe County and two that Kodak
is really big.

Its depressing to go mile after mile and see nothing
but sprawl. THe parks, places one might think have at
least some wildness in them, are nothing more than
well manicured recreation areas with wide mowed grass
fields, a pvillion every 100 feet, and barbeques every
10 feet. These places were also thick with people, the
one thing I was trying to gt away from for a few
hours. So instead of going further south I turned
north twords lake Ontario.

I went a road I hadn't gone before. And discovered
something very interesting. A giant Kodak factory with
lots of smokestacks, oil drums, and huge metal
structures that gleamed in the sun. This factory was
BIG, I estimate it to be 2/3 to 3/4 the size of the GM
assembly plant at Lordstown, Ohio (which is absolutely
massive if you've never seen it.) There are several
other factories and labs owned by Kodak as well
including another giant one not for north of their HQ
in downtown Rochester. I never would have guessed that
it would take so much space to produce those small
rolls of film that you load into your OM.

The first point of this post is that I think it might
be a nice project to take a bunch of pics of the Kodak
plants and buidings to show people just how big this
company, which makes small catridges of film, really
is, or something like that. Would anyone be interested
in seeing that?

The other point of this post is a rant about people in
general who have destroyed all the wide open and
woodsy spaces in upstate NY. I love the West for this
very reason. The fact that one you get out of one of
the major population centers there isn't 200 miles of
suburb until you hit the next city. I'm sad about
that. Sorry for the rant I just had to vent since I
didn't find a single peaceful empty spot in my entire
6 hour 150 mile trek, not even one, people just suck
sometimes.
