I use the split screen every time. It is particularly
useful when taking macro shots with close-up lenses,
although it take a little patience. (The patience pays
off with sharp focus in oherwise difficult
circumstances.)
Of course the split becomes useless in dark
conditions. For example when using too many extension tubes.
