Bob,

I would certainly try using the lenses, before tossing them out. A lens
can often have significant defects, and still be usable. Is the damage
so bad that it is visible in your photographs.

If you're particularly adventuresome, you could try cleaning the lens
yourself. See:

http://www.micro-tools.com/

As a good source for camera tools. You would probably need, at a
minimum a multi-tool, and a set of the rubber rings to remove the
decorative bezel from the front of the lens. You can even use an
appropriate-sized rubber cup (buy at a hardware store to go under a
furniture leg) and a machinist's compass, if you don't want to buy
tools. You will need to glue a gum rubber band to the edge of the cup,
to give it the needed "bite". If the fungus has gone too far, the lens
element is ruined, but sometimes the fungus can be successfully removed
from the elements. Or, you might sell the lenses to a list member, and
get some $$ out of them. Lens can sometimes be successfully fixed, but
the cost of repair is more than the lens is worth. This is known as BER
(Beyond Economic Repair).

I live in the northwest U.S., so we do not have the heat and humidity
that the fungus needs to grow. I know some list members have
de-humidity cabinets for storage of equipment. You might want to look
in the archives, as this topic has come up before.
