Just got to the digests
Which 72mm circular polarizers won't vignette on the 18/3.5 with OEM 49-72
step-up?
Do I really have to buy the B+W slim ultra-wide?...it's $170.00 :-(
Or is using a polarizer on the 18/3.5 a waste?
Absolutely. I've used a Tiffen 72mm without any noticible additional
vignetting, but then, it's hard to say what's noticable with a polarizer on
a lens that wide. I won't use one on a lens wider than 28mm. The coverage
area is so wide that one side of the sky is dramatic while the other is
barely changed. Does the Tiffen vignette, or is it the polarizing? I hate
the look so much that I didn't take things any farther. I suggest you look
into a graduated ND filter instead.

A light yellow filter is a general, all-round B&W filter. Its effects
aren't
> as dramatic as a red (25A) filter, but the exposure factor is much less
(2x),
Nice filter, the K2, use one a lot. Red produces a dramatic effect of dark
skies, etc, not that great for other things, except maybe emulating ortho
film.

Wow that's a remarkably high EI for FP4. Was this a typo or could you tell
us how you came up with that value? For normal contrast (sheet FP4+), I
use EI64 with Xtol and can't imagine how our measurements could be off by
a factor of 4x!
Maybe I did overstate a bit, but I find it gives almost a uniform one stop
extra in d&d Xtol, sometimes more. I don't get this with other films.
Didn't go too much further with this, just adjusted exposure, now am back to
Plus-X, since Ilford is back up to regular price. Really like Plus-X. Maybe
there's a difference between 120 and 4x5, or from d&d to tank processing.
Again, haven't used it in 35. Have used HP5 in 35, always carry it in my XA
when traveling, don't notice a speed increase there with same processing.

Don't overlook Verichrome Pan, although it is a bit short on resolving power
vs. newer films, it does have exceptionaly wide latitude and exceptional
tonal range. But, it's in 120, not 35mm.
