Yes there is. I recently completed one of Bill Brook's excellent lightning
detectors and it works very well. It can be tuned to be extremely sensitive,
but as to whether or not it will detect a meteor and fire the shutter needs
to be tested. Essentially it is a self contained unit with an infrared
detector coupled to a fast trigger circuit. Connect this to your Winder or
MD and it will fire the shutter when it "sees" lightning (or any bright
light source). Since I have built it I have not had any lightning storms
where I was in a position to test it (it figures), but I did successfully
test it on the 4th of July at a fireworks show.

Incidentally, Bill was extremely helpful, generous and patient during the
assembly process. Another example of the "best of breed" in humanity.Thanks,
