Hi all,

Just a question regarding filters for Zuiko's.

What brand filters do people use specifically:

1. on super wides to avoid vignetting?
2. on other lenses to protect front element and yet have minimal additional flare?
3. Is there such a thing as a slim line circpol filter?

I use Hoya HMC Sky 1B's for all my lenses. They're quite reliable, IMHO. Good multicoating, good machining, good glass. They also produce most of the more popular items in a "Super HMC" line (I guess the coatings approach the thickness of the glass with those ones... *6> ).

If there's a picture I want to take where it's *absolutely* critical to squeeze every last ounce of contrast and resolution out of the lens (for instance, I *know* that I'm going to do some extreme magnification of the image), I'll remove the filter first -- otherwise, filters stay on at all times.

Hoya also makes a line of "super-thins" to avoid vignetting, including circular polarizers (their "Pro 1" series still have front threads). Several other manufacturers do the same, though IIRC, none of them retain front threads. Try surfing B&H Photo's website for them -- they're there. Just as a check, 55mm Skylight 1B Hoyas (from non-coated all the way to their Pro 1 line) range in price from $9.95 U.S. to $44.95 U.S. at B&H.
