The AE-1 was introduced in 1976, 5 years after the OM-1. There is no
comparason between them. The AE-1P was introduced in 1981. Again, not
really relavent to the original question. I believe there were only
heavy mechanical clunker SLR's available at the time the OM-1 was
introduced. An SLR with the size and feel of a Leica was a wonder at
that time.
